Our range of natural wines has expanded with a new piece: Morellino di Scansano wine from the Tuscan winery Le Rogaie.

During our wanderings through the Tuscan Maremma, we discovered an interesting sustainable micro-winery Le Rogaie among the hills, which produces only 10,000 bottles annually. The winery was established just a few years ago with a clear goal: to connect sustainability, tradition, and innovation. Simply put, to produce wine in a modern and sustainable way with respect for the soil, animals, and landscape, so that they can preserve diversity and pass on a healthy winery and land to future generations.
The winery, under the direction of Pietro Poggi, operates as a harmonious whole combining vineyards, olive groves, and wild Mediterranean vegetation full of wildlife. Neither the vineyards nor the olive groves are irrigated, no chemicals are used for treatment and fertilization, horses take care of weed grazing, and the harvest is, of course, done by hand. During the production itself, interventions in the wines are minimal to maintain their authenticity and purity.
Here, quantity is definitely not the focus. At Le Rogaie, they produce only three wines based on local varieties. One of them, which you will newly find with us, is Morellino di Scansano.
Morellino di Scansano is the most famous red wine from Maremma, produced in the vicinity of the town of Scansano, in the warmest and closest area to the sea in all of Tuscany. Thanks to the warm climate, the Sangiovese grapes, from which Morellino is made, ripen to full maturity and thus lose their pronounced acidity. Classic Morellino is therefore a distinctly fruity, uncomplicated, and very drinkable wine.
At Le Rogaie, however, they make Morellino differently. They use only Sangiovese grapes from their own vineyards and do not blend them with other varieties, as is sometimes customary. Thanks to early harvesting, they retain acidity and old vineyards give the wine structure and complexity. The entire vinification takes place in concrete vats, which preserve a pure taste. Morellino di Scansano Le Rogaie is therefore significantly more acidic, juicier, and richer and pairs excellently with rustic Tuscan dishes such as grilled meats, matured cheeses, hearty soups, or game.
