Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo DOC rosa-ae 2023 Torre Dei Beati

The rosé wine Cerasuolo d'Abruzzo is one of the renowned wines of the Abruzzo region, which local winemakers used to offer only to rare guests. It is made from the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo variety, and although it has been made in Abruzzo practically since forever, it only received the protected DOC designation in 2010. Its name is derived from the word "cerasa," which is used in southern Italy for cherries. Cerasuolo Torre dei Beati is characterized not only by its cherry color but also by a fresh aroma of cherries, pomegranate, and strawberries, complemented by refreshing citrus and elegant tones of roses. Its taste is full, balanced with a more pronounced acidity and minerality, making it a versatile companion for a wide range of dishes from pizza to fish. At Torre dei Beati, they use only the best, organically grown grapes from vineyards at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, which boast a unique microclimate. In 2018, it was awarded the title of "best rosé wine of the year" by the Gambero Rosso guide and regularly appears in the Slow Food list of "100 best Italian rosé wines."

Torre dei Beati

The Torre dei Beati winery was founded in 1999 when Fausto Albanesi took over the vineyards from his father. Right from the start, he knew he wanted to produce quality, honest wines that express the best of local varieties, so he immediately started farming organically, and in 2000 the first bottle of Montepulciano d'Abruzzo saw the light of day. He initially produced wine only on the ground floor of an old country house in the middle of the vineyard, later expanding to include a cellar and new production facilities. Fausto and his family take care of 21 hectares of vineyards in the renowned wine region of Loreto Aprutino. The vineyards are located on hills at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level between the Gran Sasso mountain range and the coast. During the day, pleasant temperatures prevail, influenced by the gentle breeze from the sea, and at night the temperature drops significantly due to the cold air from the mountains. Well-ventilated vineyards are not so prone to mold and other diseases, allowing for chemical-free vine cultivation. The oldest vineyards were planted as early as the 1970s with the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo variety, later supplemented by two other autochthonous white varieties: Pecorino and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo. The driving force of the entire winery is Fausto's unflagging curiosity, which constantly drives him to experiment, observe the characteristics of individual varieties, and strive to make his wines best express the terroir and unique characteristics of local varieties.
