Cretapaglia
Antonello Canonico cultivates 3 hectares of vineyards at an altitude of 600 m in the Calabrian village of San Marco Argentano. This corner of Calabria with its mountainous landscape and the Tyrrhenian Sea within reach offers ideal conditions for growing vines. The fresh climate with significant temperature differences complements the clay soil and diverse vegetation from forests, olive groves to orchards. Antonello tries to follow the traditions and knowledge of local winemakers, and thus in his once abandoned and now flourishing vineyards, we find little-known old local varieties such as Mantonico, Magliocco, Zibibbo, Greco Nero, or Guardavalle. The wines that Antonello produces from them are light, delicate, and direct. Very short maceration and no interventions in the vineyard or cellar give rise to specific wines that are a perfect reflection of the local terroir.
